Last year I was Christmas shopping for the kid at Bed bath and beyond and came across this washcloth, called the wonder Cloth.  After reading the claims on the box, and doing a quick search for reviews online on my phone, curiosity got the better of me and I shelled out $14 for it.

According to the wonder cloth official website, here are the claims:
• All natural make up remover Cloth
• Hypo-Allergenic & Dermatologist Tested
• helps to exfoliate skin
• Removes all make up swiftly and easily with just water.
• Rinses clean with water, no stains remain on the cloth!
• maker washable
• Re-usable – economical – use wonder cloth over and over
• Bleach-safe cloth lasts twice as long as a standard washcloth

The idea is that you can use just this cloth and no cleansers to remove all traces of makeup. I was ecstatic by the prospect of this! So lots of possibilities: travel without having to pack little tiny bottles of cleansers, going camping and just washing my face by a babbling brook (not that I’ve been camping in years), and no a lot more shelling out money for cleansers ever igen!

Virgin Wonder Cloth.
The new unused cloth is incredibly soft and silky, nearly like that artificial fur baby blanket material.  It is made of rayon, which is essentially reconstituted, highly processed, wood pulp.

Feeling incredibly excited, I used this for a week straight, and my enthusiasm waned as the days (actually evenings – I used this solely at night to remove my makeup) went on.  I did not take pleasure in using the wonder Cloth at all – it was NOT cleaning my face thoroughly as claimed. After my initial washing with the wonder cloth (just the cloth plus H2O, as instructed), my eye makeup and my foundation were not completely removed – I would say the cloth maybe removed about 50% of the face makeup.  This was evident when I used my normal second step cleansing with micellar water. I had to use two and often THREE cotton pads to fully cleanse my face, instead of the normal one.

At the end of the week.
In addition, the Wonder Cloth itself got progressively dingier looking by the day, and the silky soft quality diminished after every wash / air dry cycle. If you’ve ever owned rayon clothing, you will know what I indicate – when rayon gets wet, it takes on a completely different hand-feel than its regular state – nearly a dry crunchy feel.  The packaging claims that the fibres are meant to rinse clean with water – liar! I rinsed as thoroughly as possible and it did not get clean looking. They also didn’t account for the edges of the cloth where the overlock thread was used – that part of the cloth retained a lot of stains as I used the cloth.

After the week was over, I threw the cloth into the wash inside a laundry mesh bag and it did wash up cleanly, and the softness of the unused cloth did return, but it wasn’t as silky. However, it’s not functional to wash the wonder cloth nightly after each use.

Bottom line: wonder Cloth is not so wonderful.  Save your money and just use a regular wash cloth or a Konjac sponge with a proper facial cleanser instead. has any individual else tried this? Now I’m not sure what to use my Wonder cloth for instead now – thoughts?

I chose not to do a trash stash (empties) post for September because I’m so backlogged with messages but I certainly want to squeeze in my accountability for the month. here are some of the items that got added to my stash:

To refresh, for the month of September, I had -$91.68 balance left in my budget. Yup, you read that correctly, I was in the hole. No makeup spending for me. but luckily, I went on getaway in September so the “Vacation Clause” kicked in, as is widely known.

Shiseido The makeup blush brush – ever because I got my paws on the Powder brush when I was in Japan, I’ve been kicking myself for not getting the blush brush as well. I sought it out on ebay and when the Canadian dollar was a little stronger, I chose to take the plunge. I’m so pleased I did. I’ll do a review of the various brushes I’ve acquired this year.

These are random acquisitions when I hit up the various Winners either on the way home from work or on the weekends. I probably purchase something for every 4 times I visit a Winners store.

You Cosmetics charm Blender Cleanser Rosewater – I’ve never tried a spot brush cleanser before, but ever because I started project Pan, I’ve been sticking to the same few brushes because I’m wearing the same eye shadows day in, day out. but the idea of not cleaning those brushes gives me the heebie jeebies so I hope this brush cleanser will work well. I noted that it’s alcohol-free which is essential to me because I mostly use natural bristle makeup brushes and I didn’t want the alcohol to dry out the bristles.

Sukin Micellar Cleansing Water – I was so thrilled to find a whole display of Sukin skincare products but even much more thrilled about finding the micellar waters again!

I tried it earlier this year and it is so good that it challenged my longtime preferred micellar water from Yves Rocher – the Sukin made my favourites of early 2016 list. and I was shocked that they were only $5.99 each. I know that the bottle I got back in January cost $9.99. So of course, I grabbed 2 bottles. They have expiry date of March 2018.

Holika Holika One service Anti-Wrinkle serum – I’m stocking up on serums in advancement of the upcoming winter. this one looks like a good one for night time. It always surprises me to see well-known Korean brands at Winners now.

La Roche Posay Effaclar K – remember how I was moaning about this being discontinued in Canada? Well, I found this at a Winners, just in time!  I went into a location that I don’t visit regularly and it was just sitting on the shelf, all by its lonesome. It’s fate, I tell you.

Etival Ener-C Vitamin C mist and Brightening Serum – I recently finished the Paula’s Choice RESIST C15 very Booster which I love, but it’s a bit spendy with the current exchange rate (C$64 not including shipping) so I chose to give this home-grown brand a try (plus, I like trying new things). Etival is the private label skincare brand of consumers drug Mart. I’ve been implying to try something from them so I was pleased to get these during a 40% off sale (with the discount, the 2 items concerned C$32).

I had just one day left to redeem it… 10% off makeup! thoughts of hauling from Nars or Burberry danced across my jet lagged brain. but in the end, I opted to stay home and do copious amount of laundry instead of filling my life with much more makeup.

Guess what, my No-Buy is OVER! I’m now back in the black! I have $108.32 to spend in October… let’s see how long that lasts because I’m planning on going to the newly opened Nordstrom store here in Toronto soon.

M’s Skin type: virtually ideal in every way… okay, okay, I guess dry / combination

M’s Skincare routine
Morgen:
Cleanser: No method jose!
Toner: Yes, I just can’t get enough… Winter: Micellar water (right now Vichy but I choose the Yves Rocher Detoxifying Tea) Summer: best now trying to utilize up Clarins but choose Yves Rocher’s micellar water or the Perfecting Toning lotion from the exact same line… so refreshing!)
Serum: Paula’s choice (PC) withstand daily smoothing treatment (5% AHA) + PC withstand very Antioxidant Concentrate serum

M’s skincare routine is similar to mine so of course I’d give her a good grade!  And I can assure you all that her skin is lovely.

You may be allergic to something in those products that broke you out; common skincare components that are irritants include: alcohol, menthol, sodium lauryl sulfate, essential oils like orange oil, etc.  fragrance can also be a major irritant.  Be sure to checked out labels (here’s a useful site) and do a process of elimination – eliminate one item each time to isolate the culprit.  In the exact same vein, only try one new product each time in purchase to reduce the danger of a reaction, so if a reaction does occur, you understand immediately what is triggering it.

I was just itching to purchase something at the MAC store.  I was at a mini-makeover a few weeks ago with my coworker as well as while she was making her purchases, I spied this:

It’s a spray pump.  I asked the makeup artist exactly how much it was. $12 CAD ($10 USD).  Against my much better judgement, I said, “I’ll take it.”  I’m now the happy owner of a $12 spray pump from MAC.

I should admit, I’m a bit of a spray pump connoisseur. Whenever I come across a product with a good fine mist, I either save the pump or the whole bottle (so far, my favourite spray pumps are from the Sukin toner as well as an old John Frieda root Awakening Spray).  I’ve likewise bought countless empty spray bottles from the dollar store or health and wellness food store.  But none of them expense me much more than $3.

This puppy is made in France!  Assembled in Canada!  This explains why it’s $12. Only the bag is made in China. [how fun is the word “PUMPSPENDER”?]

Apparently this fits MAC’s travel bottles, which I also own.  I do truly like their travel bottles – they don’t leak as well as don’t retain odours, as well as mine have lasted for years (they expense $12 for a pair).  The travel bottle includes a flip top, as well as it switches quickly to the spay pump with a ideal fit:
